Abstract：
In this paper the gas gain of a proportional tube is discussed. On the basis of analysing the existing calculation formulas, a new α/p-E/p relation and a corresponding formula of gas gain are proposed. The theory is compared with the experimental data of BF₃ and CH₄ proportional tubes.
